The water softening system is very essential for the smooth operation and long life duration of a steam boiler.
During the water softening process, the raw water is filtered and make-up water is generated through the ion exchange process. The hardening formers-calcium and magnesium ions -are replaced by sodium ions.
Fully automatic twin plants are preferred for highly automated plants with constant make-up water treatment
Individual plants are only recommended when the make-up water supply can be shut off.
Constant supply of soft feed water prevents scale build-up and offers an excellent economic operation of the boiler.
That is why an appropriate water softening system has to be studied and selected according to the demands and operating conditions of the boilers.
